STAY INFORMED ABOUT UTILITY-SCALE INDUSTRIAL BURDENS IN OUR COUNTY
Who We Are
Grimes County Citizens for Responsible Development is a grassroots group of local residents who came together after learning in March 2026 about potential large-scale industrial development proposed for the Iola and Bedias area along FM 1696. Initial reports indicated plans that could include a data center, large solar installations, and natural gas generation facilities covering thousands of acres.
Like many residents, we were surprised to discover how much activity may already be underway in our county with very little public awareness. What began as a handful of neighbors sharing information after a town meeting quickly grew into a broader community effort to better understand what is being proposed and how it could impact our land, water, infrastructure, and way of life.
Within days, local citizens began organizing. Volunteers created communication channels, built this website, started a community petition, contacted experts, researched public records, and began connecting with neighbors across the county. Community members secured meeting space, printed flyers, and organized outreach so residents could gather, share information, and become part of the conversation.
Our group includes landowners, business owners, farmers, ranchers, and families from across Grimes County. Some of us are new to the area; others represent families who have lived here for generations. We come from different backgrounds and political perspectives, but we share a common goal: protecting the future of our community through responsible development and informed decision-making.
We believe growth can be positive when it is carefully planned and when the community has a seat at the table. Our goal is not to attack local officials or developers, but to ensure that decisions affecting Grimes County are made with transparency, with public input, and with the long-term interests of residents in mind.
Like many communities across Texas, we are realizing that major industrial and energy infrastructure projects are expanding rapidly into rural areas. Many of us simply want to make sure that from this point forward, our community is informed, organized, and able to participate constructively in the decisions that shape our county.
Grimes County is more than land on a map — it is home to families, farms, wildlife, businesses, and generations of people who care deeply about preserving the character and health of our community.
By working together, educating ourselves, and speaking with a unified voice, we believe we can help ensure that the future of Grimes County reflects the values of the people who live here.
To ensure that development in Grimes County occurs with transparency, community input, and responsible planning that protects our land, water, infrastructure, and quality of life for current and future generations.
We believe that residents deserve a clear understanding of major projects that affect their communities and a meaningful voice in decisions that shape the future of Grimes County.
Transparency
Major developments that affect our communities should be openly communicated and discussed with the residents who live here.
Community Voice
Residents, landowners, and local businesses deserve a seat at the table when decisions are made that impact our county.
Responsible Development
Growth should be carefully planned to ensure it benefits local communities without compromising environmental health, infrastructure, or public safety.
Protection of Natural Resources
Grimes County’s land, water, wildlife, and agricultural heritage are vital assets that should be preserved and protected.
Respectful Engagement
We seek constructive dialogue with local officials, agencies, and developers to ensure that development happens with the community — not to the community.
Grimes County Citizens for Responsible Development is made up entirely of volunteers. Our members include farmers, ranchers, small business owners, families, retirees, and long-time residents who care deeply about the future of our county.
We are neighbors working together — sharing information, learning from one another, and helping ensure that our community remains informed and engaged.
